We woke up early and caught a bus quickly to get there for the 7am start time to hike Machu Picchu Montana. This is a 650M vertical climb that starts on the edge of the ruins on the way to the Sun Gate. We wanted to beat the crowds and the heat, being one of the first people up was nice as there wasn’t a lot of talking and we could freely move about to take pictures. Being high above the main ruins really let us appreciate how amazing a place it is and how difficult it must have been to build.
After getting back down walked around the ruins but without a guide it was basically staring at rocks while dodging hoards of tourists. I know the government limits the number of visitors and this is the low season, but it felt like it was too many people.
