Hong Kong – Tycoon Tann

So it had been exactly 7 years since I was in HK on the tail end of my first trip to Japan. Thankfully this time didn’t pass over my final destination eight hours before arriving there. However, a much longer journey as I had to overnight in the airport hotel of my ultimate destination country before getting on a domestic flight in the next few hours.

There are too many options to choose from in HK to eat and while I usually look at guides my dad go often and many of his friends live there and recommended this AYCE. Unfortunately they took char siu off the brunch menu and being along I didn’t want to order it a la carte. I asked for smaller portions of most dishes and I think did pretty good eating 11 savory dishes and one dessert accompanied by one cocktail and I’m guessing 2/3rds bottle of a nice Chilean carbernet. The best were the fried shrimp and beef ribs while the har gaw might’ve been the best I’ve ever had. The eggplant and noodles were disappointing, not much flavor and only had a few bites of each. Both duck dishes were quite nice and I wish restaurants in North America would deep fry and serve the duck bones with a bit of meat on them as well, I passed on getting the traditional stir fried duck meat served in lettuce.

Before lunch I did a quick sightseeing tour in the drizzle and only really took the Star Ferry from Central to TST and back after walking around TST for 30 min. As much as HK evolves with the times it’s great to see these ferries still running and remain incredibly cheaper at just under 50 cents to cross the water.

The plan was to hit up a 1* food stall after brunch but I was way too full and with the rain didn’t feel like waiting in line so went back to the airport.
